About

Subgenres is a literary press for short fiction, established in 2026 by Montreal writer Brooke Lee. Sometimes, there isn’t a genre for what we write. In the meantime, Subgenres is seeking absurd realism, postmodern irony, and cosmic dread in the form of prose.

We want to read stories that are stranger than your everyday fiction. The middle ground between concrete and abstract. The halfway point between convention and avant-garde. The tipping point of horror to comedy.
